Behold:

This is Adventures in Film Theory. Enter, if you dare. Or turn tail and run. In either case, the stink of these adventures is already on you.

I had a lot of questions about Enemy.

I was totally confused, and thought it was some opaque existential meander, with no answers and barely any questions.

So I turned to the Google and discovered Stuckman.

One of the best explanations I’ve ever heard was YouTube movie reviewer Chris Stuckman’s take on it: Enemy Explained.

He’s actually quite astute when analyzing films, though his channel is mostly review-oriented.

I realized it’s just an exploration of a man wrestling with himself over monogamy, familial responsibility, and the end of his autonomy. It’s poignant enough just as an exploration of that theme. I can certainly relate to the struggle.

I wish he did more explanatory videos, but he tends to reserve them for only a few choice films. His analysis of Only God Forgives is great, too. Like a lot of good reviewers, he doesn’t look for things that aren’t really there, which often makes a film less intelligible than just taking for granted what the director has put there.
