Behold:

This is Adventures in Film Theory. Enter, if you dare. Or turn tail and run. In either case, the stink of these adventures is already on you.

Is Killing a Kid Okay in Movies?

Ugh. I actually like the movie, but Feast 2: Sloppy Seconds.

I don’t know if it shows balls rather than bad judgment.

I know it’s a movie. And a horror-comedy. And in consciously bad taste.

It’s an obvious attempt to be shocking, but come on. I still don’t like watching the scene.

So some survivors are trapped on a roof. There’s a baby trapped in a car on the street, crying. One dude, the would-be hero, swings down to the street and grabs the infant. He tries to run away, but it’s clear he’s not going to escape from the creatures. So he tosses the baby behind his back, up into the air. The baby lands with a smack on the asphalt, then is gobbled up by the creatures.

Again, I know. It’s a movie. But seriously, violence against children, especially babies, is where I draw the line. I don’t want to be “one of those people,” but violence against infants and toddlers is a real thing, and it’s sickening. I don’t want to see it in my movies, no matter how intentionally offensive.

Another one is the original Toxic Avenger.

I think this was the first film death that really made me step back and say, “Woah, Nelly.”

The villains are a pack of muscle-headed teenagers. By day they’re jocks working out at a gym, by night they drive around killing people with their car for points.

So they drive up alongside some poor kid riding his bike at night. The girls flirt with him, then they speed ahead, turn around, and drive back toward him at full speed. They crash into him, but the driver doesn’t get the full points because the kid is still alive and crawling along the street, all bloodied up and bruised.

So they back over his head! I shit you not.

Troma Film Studios is a legendary purveyor of bad taste, and there was no reason to think they wouldn’t go there. But damn. There has to be something wrong with the modern world when this stuff is passed off as entertainment.

At least the villains get their comeuppance.

Not to be an old school-marm or nothing!
